(AFP Photo) The Israeli military on Wednesday accused Hezbollah of committing what it described as a “blatant violation of the ceasefire" after the Iran-backed militant group allegedly launched an explosive drone at an Israeli engineering vehicle in southern Lebanon. According to the Israeli military, the incident occurred overnight near the Ali al-Taher Ridge, inside a security zone where Israeli forces are operating about 10 kilometres (six miles) inside southern Lebanon along the Israel-Lebanon border.

The military said no Israeli soldiers were injured in the drone attack. “Overnight, Hezbollah launched an explosive drone toward an IDF engineering vehicle in the area of Ali al-Taher Ridge within the Security Zone," it said in a statement, adding that the attack constituted a “blatant violation of the ceasefire." Israeli Troops Continue Operations Near Border Israeli forces said they continue to operate in the ridge area and would not allow armed groups to move closer to their positions or carry out attacks on soldiers. Ceasefire Deal Outlines Withdrawal, Hezbollah Disarmament The latest incident comes under a U.S.-brokered agreement signed last month, under which the Lebanese army is tasked with disarming Hezbollah while Israeli forces gradually withdraw from designated “pilot zones." Lebanese troops are then expected to deploy in those areas. The deal was reached more than three months after Hezbollah launched rockets at Israel on March 2 in support of Tehran, pulling Lebanon deeper into the wider Middle East conflict.

Israel responded with extensive airstrikes and a ground offensive. Trump, Netanyahu Hold Talks on Lebanon, Regional Security The alleged ceasefire violation came a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, where the two leaders discussed the implementation of the U.S.-backed Israel-Lebanon agreement alongside developments in Iran and Gaza. The meeting marked their first face-to-face talks since the conflict with Iran escalated earlier this year. Lebanon Says Israeli Operations Continue Although violence has eased since the preliminary U.S.-Iran agreement and the Lebanon-Israel deal took effect last month, Lebanon has continued to report intermittent Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling in the country’s south. On Sunday, the Lebanese army criticised the continued Israeli military operations, saying they were preventing its full deployment in southern Lebanon as envisioned under the agreement.
