The Patiala House Court in New Delhi on Wednesday halted the execution of a non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued against former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) president Aishe Ghosh in connection with a 2021 case. Judicial Magistrate Vijayshree Rathore of the Patiala House Court passed the order, granting interim relief to Ghosh. The development came a day after the Delhi Police visited the AK Gopalan Bhavan, the organisational headquarters of the CPI(M), to arrest Ghosh in connection with the case.

Read Full Story The incident drew sharp reactions from the Cockroach Janta Party leadership, with spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka expressing his solidarity with the young Student Federation of India (SFI) leader. Standing by Ghosh, who was active in the CJP-led student protests in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, Ranka said the threat was to the government of launching never-seen-before protests if anything happened to Ghosh.

“If anything happens to Aishe Ghosh, the government will see a protest like never before. Stop harassing our team. Honour your words,” Ranka wrote on X. PARLIAMENTARY SHOWDOWN OVER DELHI POLICE ACTION On Wednesday, CPIM MP John Brittas, who was present during Delhi Police’s attempt to arrest Ghosh, raised the issue in the Rajya Sabha, criticising the ruling NDA government. Launching a scathing attack against the government, Brittas asked why the police barged into the party office of a national political party and tried to arrest Ghosh.

He alleged that the move was an attempt to silence the dissenters. Brittas was supported by the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, who doubled down on the attack on the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, for allegedly using force against ‘peaceful protestors.’ Ends
