Bharath lays foundation stone for retaining wall to address flooding in Suddavagu

Stating that the promises made to the public during the last general elections were being fulfilled one by one, Industries and Commerce Minister T.G. Bharath Gupta said that the development works were being set in motion by overcoming financial constraints and mobilising necessary funds. Bharath, along with Kurnool Municipal Corporation (KMC) Commissioner Challa Obulesu, laid the foundation stone on Wednesday for the construction of a retaining wall along the Suddavagu stream, near the KC Canal, covering the limits of the city’s 23rd and 24th wards. The Minister inspected the spraying process of the BTI (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis) biological larvicide in the KC Canal and directed the Commissioner to intensify the spraying operations.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bharath said that whenever it rained in the city, the flow of water would cause flooding in the Suddavagu vicinity, particularly in Sriram Nagar and Lakshmi Nagar areas, leading to water entering the residences of the local residents. Recalling his promise before the elections to provide a permanent solution to the issue, Mr. Bharath said that the 250-metre-long retaining wall project is being undertaken by the Water Resources Department at a cost of ₹2.50 crore. Bharath thanked district in-charge and Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu for sanctioning the funds. “With the cooperation of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister Ponguru Narayana, we could secure additional funds and take measures to construct a full-scale protective wall along the Suddavagu stream in a phased manner,” he said.
The Minister also announced that permanent solutions for the city’s long-standing issues would be taken up based on priority. The Minister attributed the ongoing development works in the city to the visionary leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and urged the public to take note of the development programmes being undertaken by the State government. Mr. Bharath also highlighted the efforts made by IT Minister Nara Lokesh to attract industries to the State. He also revealed that a High Court Bench would soon be established in Kurnool, a matter which the Chief Minister had recently shared with him.
Meanwhile, Municipal Commissioner Challa Obulesu emphasised the need for a protective wall to regulate water flow in the areas surrounding Suddavagu during heavy rains. He said that Mr. Bharath had initiated the project after securing the necessary funds, keeping in mind the difficulties faced by local residents.
