According to the details of the case, Virendra Singh lived with his family, including his son and two daughters. His friendship with Arvind Kumar Singh, a resident of the same village, gradually brought the latter into his home. Investigators alleged that the two then conspired to eliminate him. Police said the murder took place on the night of July 19. According to the investigation, Virendra Singh was asleep when Mamta Devi and Arvind Kumar Singh allegedly attacked him with a *gadasi* (a sharp agricultural cutting tool), killing him brutally. After the murder, the accused hatched another plan to prevent the body from being identified. Police said they removed all of Virendra's clothes, leaving the body naked, and dumped it into a major canal so that it would drift away, and its identity would remain unknown.
However, the plan unravelled when the body floated from Rohtas district into Buxar district and reached Kalmanpur village in Dumraon. The sight of a naked body in the canal drew the attention of local residents, who informed the police. Officers recovered the body and began efforts to establish the victim's identity. After the identification process, family members were called to the spot and identified the deceased as Virendra Singh, a resident of Karakat. Based on the statement of Virendra Singh's brother, Jitendra Singh, police registered a case at police station and launched an investigation.
During the probe, police analysed digital records and location data to identify suspects. The investigation led to the arrest of Mamta Devi, the deceased's wife, and Arvind Kumar Singh. During questioning, police said the accused confessed that the murder was committed over their love affair. Investigators concluded that Mamta Devi and Arvind Kumar Singh had jointly planned and executed the killing. Following the investigation, Buxar Police sent both accused to judicial custody. Ends
