A chartered accountant in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur has accused his wife of attempting to kill him and his parents by allegedly mixing a slow-acting toxin into their tea over a prolonged period. The woman, however, has denied the allegations, claiming she has been framed by her husband, who wants to divorce her and marry another woman. The case came to light a few days ago when Himanshu Gupta lodged a police complaint against his wife, Jyoti Gupta, alleging that she mixed harmful chemicals into the tea served to him and his parents. Claiming he had grown suspicious of her actions, Himanshu said he installed a hidden camera in the house, which captured Jyoti mixing the substance into the tea from a bottle. However, the incident took a dramatic turn after Jyoti Gupta, a lab technician at a government hospital, categorically denied the allegations. Speaking to India Today, she alleged that her husband fabricated the accusations because he wanted to divorce her and marry another woman. Jyoti claimed she never mixed any harmful chemicals into the tea on her own. Instead, she alleged that Himanshu had asked her to add turmeric and cloves to the tea, claiming it would improve his mother's health and help ease tensions between the two. She further alleged that Himanshu had sent her several Instagram videos recommending the practice. According to Jyoti, the videos were titled 'Saas ko vaash karne ka upay' (how to get control over your mother-in-law), and she followed his instructions believing they were harmless.
MARRIAGE DRIVEN BY GREED, SAYS JYOTI Jyoti also alleged that greed was at the root of their marriage. She claimed that her late father, a property dealer, spent nearly Rs 75 lakh on the wedding. However, soon after the marriage, Himanshu allegedly began demanding a commercial plot worth crores from her family. She further alleged that Himanshu had misrepresented his employment status before their marriage. According to her, although he claimed to have a job in Pune, he never went to work after the wedding. She also accused him of living on her income and taking money to run the household. HIMANSHU WANTS TO MARRY ANOTHER WOMAN, SAYS JYOTI Jyoti also claimed that Himanshu was in a relationship with a woman based in Bengaluru and had confessed to her that he wanted to marry the woman.
She further alleged that her mother-in-law, who runs a beauty parlour, also wanted Himanshu to marry the Bengaluru-based woman. According to Jyoti, the poisoning allegations were made to clear the way for his second marriage. She said repeated disputes with her in-laws eventually forced her to return to her parental home, following which Himanshu filed a divorce petition. In response, Jyoti said she lodged police complaints accusing Himanshu and his parents of dowry harassment, assault and other offences. She also alleged that her husband harassed her at her workplace, prompting her to file another complaint against him. Ends
