According to police, four accused have been arrested in connection with the case. Speaking to ANI, DSP Varun Mishra said the breakthrough came during an investigation launched to trace a missing child. “A 14-15-year-old boy had gone missing a few days ago and was being searched for.
The investigation revealed that a gang involved in child trafficking is active, and the incident was carried out by them. 4 accused have been arrested. A 17-year-old child was rescued from their possession. These people would try to find children of all kinds. All four are residents of different districts," he stated. Police said further investigation is underway. In a separate incident earlier this week, two men accused of kidnapping a one-and-a-half-year-old child were injured during a police encounter in the Hulasi Phatak area of Bareilly district. The abducted child was rescued safely and reunited with his family. The accused, identified as Yogesh and Pawan, were arrested following the operation. SP South Anshika Verma said police were alerted about the abduction of the child from Manauna village and registered a case under relevant sections of the law.
Five teams were subsequently formed to trace the victim. “On May 24, 2026, information was received regarding the abduction of a one-and-a-half-year-old child from the village of Manauna, located within the jurisdiction of the Aonla Police Station. Based on this, a case was registered under the relevant sections of the law. In furtherance of the investigation, five police teams were constituted. These teams utilised CCTV footage, surveillance, and other technical inputs to pursue the case," she said. Police tracked the suspects using CCTV footage, surveillance inputs and other technical evidence. According to SP Verma, officers later received information that the accused were attempting to transport the child to sell him and moved to intercept them. During the operation, the accused allegedly opened fire while trying to escape.
In retaliatory action by the police, both sustained gunshot injuries to their legs. SP Verma said two country-made pistols and live cartridges were recovered from the accused.
