(X/@sirajnoorani) A key witness in the Twisha Sharma death case has alleged that he was attacked by friends of the prime accused, Samarth Singh, in Bhopal amid the ongoing investigation into dowry harassment allegations levelled by Sharma’s family. The witness, Neeraj Dubey, who operates a salon near Singh’s residence, claimed that the assault took place on May 30. According to him, the attackers attempted to intimidate him and dissuade him from testifying in court. Visuals from the incident showed Dubey trying to protect himself while being surrounded by several men. He alleged that a group of four to five individuals confronted him and questioned why he was a witness in the case.

Describing the incident, Dubey said he was standing near his parlour when four to five friends of Samarth Singh arrived and surrounded him. He alleged that they abused him and warned him not to testify in the Twisha Sharma case, several media reports said. According to Dubey, the men assaulted him when he objected.
“I fear for my life. I have appealed to the police for protection and justice," he said. Dubey alleged that he has faced repeated intimidation and harassment ever since he was identified as a witness in the case. He reportedly named Sandeep Bhattacharya as one of the individuals he claims was involved in the assault. Twisha Sharma was found dead at her in-laws’ home on April 12. Her family subsequently accused her husband, Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, of dowry harassment. Both Singh and his mother have been arrested in connection with the case. On Monday, police took the duo to their residence in Katara Hills to recreate the crime scene and reconstruct the events that unfolded on the night of Sharma’s death. Investigators are working to reconstruct a detailed timeline of events leading up to and following the discovery of Sharma hanging. As per the FIR, Sharma’s husband told investigators that she had died by hanging at their residence and was subsequently taken to AIIMS Bhopal.
Hospital authorities later informed the police that she had been brought dead. The post-mortem examination identified the cause of death as “antemortem hanging by ligature". However, it also recorded multiple ante-mortem injuries on the body, which were described as simple in nature and possibly caused by a blunt object.
