According to a report by the PTC News, the deceased — identified as Amjot Kaur Aulakh — was a student of Disciplined Disciple International School, Fatehgarh Churian. Family members alleged that their daughter was constantly harassed by the school authorities over pending school fees amounting to Rs 20,000, causing her extreme stress and humiliation.
Sarabjeet Kaur, the deceased’s maternal aunt, claimed the student was summoned by the school authorities on May 22. Later in the day, she allegedly consumed poison, she added, as quoted by PTC News. Meanwhile, the family has raised questions about the events leading up to the incident. An FIR has also been registered in connection with the matter. An investigation is underway. Government Assures Strict Action Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains reacted to the student’s alleged suicide and assured the deceased’s family that “strictest action" was taken against school authorities and whoever was involved in the incident. “It is very sad news that a 17-year-old girl has committed suicide, in which she alleges that the school harassed her.
It is due to various reasons like not paying fees or other reasons. Taking it very seriously, we have registered an FIR for abetment to suicide and strictest action has been taken against the school authorities, plus whoever is involved", Bains said in a video message posted on ‘X’.
