A heated clash broke out in the Rajya Sabha over police action against student activists protesting in Delhi. Leader of the House JP Nadda defended the police crackdown, stating that student activists participating in protests should expect arrests and that the situation represents a normal law and order procedure. Recalling his own days as a student activist, Nadda stated that he too was arrested from his classroom during the Emergency.
Opposition members, including Mallikarjun Kharge and John Brittas, sharply questioned the police action and demanded accountability from the government over alleged police excesses and unauthorized action against protesters. Meanwhile, Shashi Tharoor addressed judicial system capacity and comments regarding the Bilkis Bano case. Additionally, Democratic Alliance and Bharatiya Janata Party MPs held protests near the Makar Dwar in Parliament, demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into alleged paper leaks in Jharkhand and Punjab while targeting the state governments over examination irregularities.
