He turned up at Dehat police station wearing nothing but a lungi to report it.

According to a Times of India report, Vipin Kumar, from Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district, told officers on Monday that he had handed his truck over to its owner, had a few drinks, and dozed off — only to wake up and find his trousers gone. There was just one problem with his account: still groggy from the alcohol, Vipin couldn’t recall where he’d fallen asleep or where the alleged “theft" took place, leaving police with a missing-persons case for a pair of pants and no crime scene to speak of. How Did Police Handle The Case? Officers quickly realised Vipin was too intoxicated to offer any useful leads, TOI reported.

He kept insisting the trousers be recovered, pointing out they held his cash and both his IDs. Rather than send him away empty-handed, SHO Shivpratap Singh Rajawat gave him Rs 400 to get home — along with some free advice to lay off the alcohol so he wouldn’t end up in a similar spot again, the publication reported.
