A 28-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi has accused his wife of attempting to murder him by mixing poison into his food, alleging that she conspired with two of his brothers-in-law, with whom she was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship. Police have registered a case of attempted murder against the woman and the two men on the directions of the Superintendent of Police, nearly three weeks after the alleged incident. Read Full Story According to the police complaint filed by the man, Sangam Kumar, he married the accused woman in November 2025.
Sangam alleged that even before their marriage, his wife was involved in an illicit relationship with two of his brothers-in-law, Manoj Kumar and Umashankar. He claimed that despite repeatedly asking his wife to end the alleged relationships, her behaviour did not change. According to the complaint, on July 7, his wife allegedly prepared food and mixed a poisonous substance into it at the behest of the two co-accused. Soon after consuming the meal, Sangam said his health deteriorated rapidly. He further alleged that Manoj Kumar and Umashankar arrived at the house around the same time, assaulted him, and later left with his wife.
He has accused the three of hatching a conspiracy to kill him. Family members rushed Sangam to a nearby hospital, where he was admitted to the emergency department. He survived after receiving treatment and continues to undergo medical care, according to the complaint. The complainant alleged that although he initially approached the local police with a written complaint against his wife and the two accused, no action was taken. He then approached Hardoi Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena, seeking intervention. Acting on the SP's directions, police registered an FIR against the woman, Manoj Kumar, and Umashankar under charges including attempted murder and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police said an investigation has been initiated and that further legal action will be taken based on the evidence collected during the probe. Ends
