The Delhi Police issued legal notices to major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube, demanding the removal of false posts, deepfake videos, and misleading content linked to violence during the CJP-led protests. According to authorities, thousands of fake and manipulated posts were circulated to spread misinformation, with several social media-based news portals amplifying the content.
Police sources stated that the crackdown is an ongoing process involving fact-checking and public reports to delete objectionable content. Meanwhile, Meta apologized for temporarily restricting access to a Prime Minister video before restoring it, leading to the summoning of global heads of Meta and Instagram by the IT ministry. Additionally, digital reach continues to grow with Instagram followers crossing 105 million.
