Rather than leading officers towards a distant escape route, the canine tracked a distinct scent trail along the main road, pausing near several local shops before stopping. The behaviour suggested that the perpetrator had spent time in close proximity to the victim before the attack and had walked to nearby shops immediately afterwards, ruling out an ambush by outside relatives. From False Lead to Confession Guided by Simbha’s precise scent tracking, investigators reconstructed Rakesh’s final hours and discovered he had spent the evening drinking in Mysuru with his assistant, Ambarish, who had vanished shortly after the murder occurred. A targeted search was launched, and officers intercepted Ambarish near Akkihebbal village while he was attempting to flee across the state border on a bus heading towards Tamil Nadu.
When the suspect was brought into the police station, Simbha immediately barked at him, corroborating the physical evidence. Detectives noted bloodstains on Ambarish’s trousers and slippers, which forensic analysis later confirmed matched the victim’s blood.
