(Image via X/@aishe_ghosh) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday alleged that Delhi Police entered its headquarters in New Delhi in an attempt to arrest SFI leader and former JNU Students’ Union president Aishe Ghosh in connection with a 2021 protest case. Delhi Police has launched a search for Ghosh after a Delhi court issued a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) against her for failing to appear before the court during a scheduled hearing. A police official said efforts were underway to trace her and execute the warrant. CPI(M) alleges ‘illegal’ entry at party office The CPI(M) claimed that Delhi Police personnel “forcibly" entered its headquarters, AKG Bhavan, to arrest Ghosh in connection with the 2021 Banga Bhawan protest case.

When CPI(M) MP John Brittas and other comrades forcefully intervened and challenged them, they left without carrying out their illegal attempt," Baby said. Brittas alleged that the police team arrived around 4.30 pm and claimed there was an NBW against Ghosh.

He said when asked to show the warrant, officials said it had been communicated telephonically. Police say action linked to old case A senior Delhi Police officer said the visit was made by an investigating officer in connection with an old NBW case as per court orders. “An Investigating Officer (IO) had visited the location in connection with an old non-bailable warrant case pursuant to court orders. His visit was unrelated to the present matter," the officer said. Brittas questioned the police action, saying the case related to a protest outside Banga Bhawan in 2021. He alleged that Ghosh had been under surveillance for several days and criticised the police move as an attempt to target student protesters. Ghosh, a joint secretary of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), has been associated with recent student protests over examination-related issues in Jantar Mantar. She has also approached the Delhi High Court alleging the use of surveillance technologies, including AI-based facial recognition, to identify protesters.
