However, the house was found completely secure, with the main gate bolted from inside, and police are yet to establish how the attackers got in, Station House Officer Raghuveer Singh said. Police said the attack did not appear to be a robbery as no household items or valuables were missing, and the elderly woman was still wearing her gold jewellery.
After receiving information, police reached the spot and took the couple to a local hospital, where doctors declared the woman dead. Her husband was referred to MBS Hospital in Kota because of his critical condition. The woman was identified as Kamalibai, 70, while her husband Chunnilal is undergoing treatment and his condition is now said to be stable. Police said the couple had been living alone for the past few months after their daughter and son-in-law, who had earlier stayed with them, left following an alleged dispute over land owned by Chunnilal.
A murder case has been registered against unidentified accused, and the reason for the fatal attack is still being investigated. Police said Kamalibai's body was handed over to her family after a postmortem on Tuesday noon. Ends
