Originally introduced in Jammu and Kashmir in 2010 during Omar Abdullah's tenure, pellet guns caused widespread injuries and vision loss across the decade, notably injuring nearly 6,000 people during the 2016 unrest under the PDP government.
Among the victims was Insha, a Class A student from Shopian, who lost her vision and suffered broken teeth after being hit while looking through her window. Speaking on her continuing daily struggle, Insha criticized the lack of support, stating that promised relief like a gas agency remains incomplete after nearly a decade despite approaching various leaders and officials.
Victims and security experts emphasize that pellet guns inflict severe physical and psychological trauma, with Kashmir victims demanding a complete ban on pellet guns across India.
