An official general diary entry of the Rapid Action Force accessed by India Today reveals that RAF personnel fired anti-riot guns loaded with plastic pellets twice during the July 20 protest against the NEET paper leak, contradicting earlier denials by the Delhi Police. The document shows anti-riot guns were fired on the directions of a Delhi Police DCP at Jantar Mantar.
Protester Sahil Lochab, 19, suffered severe injuries and risks losing vision in one eye. Following this, former IPS officer Yashvardhan Jha Azad and two victims moved the Supreme Court seeking a ban on pellet gun usage on civilian protesters. Meanwhile, facial recognition analysis identified 2,873 individuals with criminal backgrounds who infiltrated the protest, prompting the Supreme Court to order protection against coercive action for non-criminal protesters.
