The Yadgir City Municipal Council on Tuesday faced legal consequences in a four-decade-long case after court staff attached its movable properties, following the court’s direction. The First Additional District and Sessions Court’s staff, who followed the court’s direction in an execution petition, have attached the movable properties, including computers, tables, chairs, air coolers and other equipment, of the CMC after it failed to oblige the court’s earlier order in the land acquisition case, directing it to pay compensation against land acquisition proceedings.
Background “The CMC acquired the land measuring 6,656 sq ft owned by Saraswathi Bai and paid her ₹20 lakh in 1983-84. But she moved to the court seeking higher compensation with a petition. The court, while pursuing her petition, directed the CMC to pay the compensation amount as prayed. But the CMC has failed. Thereafter, Ms. Bai moved to the court with an execution petition in 2025, and the court directed her to pay the compensation of ₹2.18 crore, including the interest,” M.
Vijay Kumar, advocate representing the petitioner, told The Hindu, over the phone. “However, the CMC failed to meet the demand as per the court’s order. Therefore, it has passed attachment of movable properties,” he added. On Tuesday, the court staff attached movable properties, including the computers, chairs, tables and other movables, and shifted them to the track and took them to the court for further proceedings.
“We extended our cooperation with the court staff,” he said, adding that he would follow the instructions of the higher authorities for further legal proceedings.
