The Karnataka Dhamma Janjagruti Yatra-2026, being organised to promote constitutional values and mark the 70th anniversary of the historic Buddhist Dhamma Deeksha movement, will commence on October 5, according to national president of the International Buddhist Youth Organisation (India), Zen monk Shaku Bodhi Dhamma. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Shaku said the State-wide yatra is being jointly organised by the International Buddhist Youth Organisation (India), Global Dr. Ambedkar Buddhist Mission (U.S.), All India Dr. Ambedkar Bhikkhu Sangha, and the Buddhist Mahastupa Development and Conservation Trust, Sannati (Kanaganahalli).
The yatra will be flagged off from the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Statue at Jagat Circle here on October 5 and will travel through all districts of Karnataka over the next three weeks. The concluding programme will be held on November 1 at the 2000-year-old ancient Buddhist site at Sannati (Kanaganahalli) in Chittapur taluk, where a grand Buddhist Dhamma Deeksha ceremony will also be organised.
Shaku said nearly five lakh people are expected to embrace Buddhist Dhamma during the concluding event. Devotees and followers from across the State as well as several other parts of the country are expected to participate. He said the Dhamma
Janjagruti yatra aims to strengthen the constitutional ideals of equality, liberty, justice and fraternity in society. Highlighting the historical significance of Sannati as an ancient Buddhist centre, he appealed for collective efforts towards the preservation and development of the heritage site.
