In an interview with India Today, Bharatiya Janata Party Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev discussed her transition to the treasury benches and defended the government's stance on educational reforms and recent student protests. Dev highlighted that being on the treasury benches allows for a greater say in policy making. Addressing opposition allegations regarding paper leaks and the Testing Agency, she argued that the NDA government has shown decisive leadership compared to past policy paralysis, stating, "They've shown greater conviction and more action." She further defended former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, emphasizing his contributions to the party and government, and asserting that taking moral responsibility should not treat him as a criminal.
Regarding the education budget, Dev rejected comparisons between corporate loan write-offs and government spending, pointing out a 103 percent increase in the education budget since 2014 from 65,869 crores to over 1.39 lakh crores.
