Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuesday rejected the Opposition's allegation of a paper leak in the state, and said it was trying to spread lies against the AAP government. He said there had not been a single case of paper leak in the four years of the Bhagwant Mann government. His remarks came amid Opposition attacks over a cheating racket detected recently during a pharmacy officer recruitment exam, with demands for the resignation of Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains and Health Minister Balbir Singh.
Read Full Story Addressing the media in Chandigarh, Cheema said, "There has not been a single case of paper leak in Punjab. Opposition parties are trying to mislead our youths." Referring to the pharmacy officer exam, he said some youths were caught cheating through electronic means. "There is nothing more than that. The Opposition is lying. It does not have any issue against the Bhagwant Mann government and that is why it is trying to create a fake issue," he charged.
On July 19, Punjab Police said it had dismantled a highly sophisticated interstate cheating racket operating during the pharmacy officer examination. Seven key conspirators and 28 candidates were held, and police recovered 27 battery-operated wireless cheating devices. Nearly 7,000 candidates appeared in the exam for 454 pharmacy officer posts at 25 examination centres in Faridkot, Kotkapura and Ferozepur. On the recent lathicharge on sanitation workers in Barnala, Cheema said a special investigation team had been formed to probe the matter and action would be taken against anyone found to have misused power.
