The Supreme Court on Tuesday said the allegations arising out of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-linked student protests over NEET-UG irregularities prima facie warrant a fair and independent investigation, with Chief Justice Surya Kant observing that the proposed probe must also address the concerns raised by the families of police personnel injured during the violence. While hearing a batch of petitions alleging police excesses during protests over examination-related issues, a bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana indicated that it may constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by a retired Supreme Court judge to investigate allegations of excesses by police as well as attacks on law enforcement personnel. n18oc_breaking-news n18oc_india News18 Mobile App
