The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has launched an ambitious ‘80 Garbage-Free Spots’ campaign to transform 80 garbage vulnerable points (GVPs) across the city as part of the 80th Independence Day celebrations. The campaign began on Tuesday (July 28) with a cleanliness drive at a GVP near Freedom Park on Chamaraja Double Road, where accumulated solid waste was cleared and the location converted into a garbage-free spot.
MCC Commissioner M.K. Savita inaugurated the drive by joining civic workers in clearing the waste, with the aim of keeping the city clean and trash-free. The programme saw the participation of MCC officials and volunteers from organisations, including Mysore Grahakara Parishat, Clean Mysuru Group, Mysuru Travels Association, Dattagalli Clean Foundation, and GSS.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Veena, Superintending Engineer Sindhu, Chief Accounts Officer Shwetha, Executive Engineers Madhusudhan, Srinivas and Mohan, Executive Engineer (Environment) Mrutyunjaya K.S., assistant executive engineers, environmental engineers, health inspectors, supervisors and civic workers participated in the drive. The next
phase of the campaign will be held near Five Lights Circle on Dawood Khan Road on Wednesday (July 29) at 6.30 a.m. The MCC has appealed to residents, volunteers and organisations to participate in large numbers and support the initiative.
