HYDERABAD The Opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has demanded that the alleged excesses of HYDRAA and its discrimination in taking action on the illegal structures be inquired into with a sitting judge of the High Court. Speaking to newspersons here on Tuesday, party whip K.P. Vivekanand said the High Court verdict ordering the State Government to remove Commissioner of HYDRAA A.V. Ranganath from the post was a result of a battle waged by BRS on behalf of the poor and middle-class, who were selectively victimised by the agency.
Instead of standing by the people at the time of disasters, HYDRAA was pushing them into disasters and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who handles the portfolio of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, had no moral right to continue in the post following the court directions. Speaking separately, party MLC Dasoju Sravan said the High Court verdict in a batch of petitions against HYDRAA was not a routine one and said there were only a few instances where the courts had directed the governments to remove some officers in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and a few others.
The comments of Mr. Ranganath made after the court judgment against him were not his words but were those of Mr. Revanth Reddy. He sought to know why HYDRAA, which had demolished hundreds of houses of the
poor, had not acted against the buildings of MIM leadership when they were very much within the full tank level area of a water body. Similarly, one private construction company was building apartments on the bed of Musi.
