Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his "personal attention" to the flood situation in the state, which has claimed 68 lives so far and continues to affect more than 4.45 lakh people. Sarma said the state government was working on a war footing to provide relief and had been able to reach every affected village. He also said power had been restored in most flood-hit areas and those rescued were staying in relief camps with food and medical support.

Later, he said on X that the Centre was working closely with the Assam government to provide relief to affected people. Sharing PM Modi's post on X, Sarma said, "Adarniya Pradhan Mantri ji, thank you for your personal attention to this matter and taking on-the-ground updates regarding the Assam floods." "Under your leadership, we are working on a war footing to provide relief to our people, and so far we have been able to reach every affected village," the Chief Minister said.
He said power connectivity had also been restored to a majority of the flood-affected areas and that all those rescued were sheltered in relief camps with proper food and medical facilities. "We will keep working 24/7 to ensure swift response in this hour and thereafter present a comprehensive rehabilitation roadmap to assist our people, which shall be rooted in the principles of Jan Bhagidari (people's participation)," Sarma said, while thanking the Prime Minister for "closely monitoring the situation and offering all assistance to us".
The prime minister had also called Sarma on Saturday to enquire about the situation and had offered full support to the Assam government in dealing with the floods.
