(File photo) The Kerala government on Wednesday announced the allocation of portfolios in the newly formed cabinet, with Chief Minister VD Satheesan keeping several major departments, including Finance, Law, General Administration and Ports. According to a notification issued by Kerala Lok Bhavan, Satheesan will oversee a total of 35 departments, giving the chief minister direct control over several key administrative and policy matters in the state government.
Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has been given charge of the crucial Home and Vigilance departments. He will also handle three additional portfolios in the new cabinet. The allocation of departments was recommended by Satheesan to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar following the swearing-in ceremony held on May 18, and the recommendations have now received the governor’s approval, Lok Bhavan said on Wednesday. Among other major allocations, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader P K Kunhalikutty has been entrusted with Industries and Commerce, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Startups, Mining and Geology, as well as Handlooms and Textiles. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief Sunny Joseph has been assigned Electricity, Environment and Parliamentary Affairs.
Senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan will head seven departments, including Health, Devaswoms, Food Safety and Medical Education. Roji M John has been given charge of Higher Education, while AP Anil Kumar will oversee Land and Revenue. N Shamsudheen has been appointed General Education Minister. In addition, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) MLA Shibu Baby John will handle Forests and Wildlife Protection along with Skill Development. Kerala Congress (Joseph) legislator Mon Joseph has been assigned Irrigation, Ground Water, Water Supply and Sanitation, and Housing departments in the new cabinet.
