Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee spoke in Parliament during the discussion on the Public Examination Amendment Bill 2026. Supporting the amendment, Abhishek Banerjee stated that 'support for this bill cannot be a substitute for accountability' and noted that stronger legislation alone cannot restore lost faith among millions of students. He criticized the government over repeated examination paper leaks across the country over the past 12 years, citing instances from CBSE, NEET UG, UGC NET, and SSC CGL exams.
Banerjee argued that increasing punishment does not resolve administrative negligence or failure of examination authorities. He questioned the lack of official data maintained on paper leaks and stated that despite claims of high governance and security, paper leaks continue consistently. Highlighting the distress faced by young aspirants and protesting students, Banerjee stated, 'The government promised Amrit Kal. Instead, millions of students today has experienced Anxiety Kal.' He concluded by emphasizing that protecting merit is the highest form of patriotism.
