The company's 20th anniversary iPhone is still more than a year away, but early leaks suggest Apple may use the occasion to introduce a phone that looks very different from the iPhone models we know today. The biggest change could be the display. Reports suggest the iPhone 20 may feature an almost entirely glass body, with the screen extending around all four edges. Apple could also get rid of the Dynamic Island and other visible cutouts by moving the selfie camera and Face ID hardware under the display. A bigger screen without a much bigger phone One of the latest rumours points to a display measuring around 7 inches. Tipster Digital Chat Station claims Apple is testing a panel with a physical size of 6.96 inches, which could be marketed as a 7-inch screen. That would make it slightly larger than the 6.9-inch display on the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The bigger screen may not necessarily mean a much larger handset, though. Apple is reportedly working on extremely thin bezels to fit more display into a similar-sized body. The phone could also use a quad-curved panel, with very subtle curves along all four sides rather than the deep curved edges seen on some older Android phones. The idea is to make the screen appear to run almost seamlessly into the frame. There could be two anniversary models, with screen sizes around 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches. The larger model may effectively be treated as a 7-inch iPhone because of its reduced bezels. Apple could finally ditch the Dynamic Island The front of the iPhone 20 could be where the biggest visual change happens. Apple is reportedly exploring ways to hide both Face ID components and the selfie camera beneath the display. If it manages to make the technology work well enough, the screen could have no visible notch, pill or camera cutout. That would give the iPhone 20 a completely uninterrupted display. However, this is one area where expectations should be kept in check.
Under-display camera technology has been rumoured for several generations of iPhones, but Apple has yet to use it. Some reports also suggest the technology may not be ready for a full implementation by 2027. The all-glass iPhone The anniversary model could bring back a glass rear panel while also using curved glass around the front edges. Together, the design could create the impression that the entire handset is made from one continuous piece of glass. Apple has reportedly been working towards this type of design for years, and the 20th anniversary could provide the perfect reason to finally introduce it. The frame is expected to be very slim, although reports disagree over which material Apple will use. The company may continue with aluminium rather than moving back to titanium. Haptic buttons could replace physical controls Apple may also remove another familiar part of the iPhone: moving buttons. The iPhone 20 is rumoured to use solid-state buttons with haptic feedback. Instead of physically pressing into the frame, the buttons could detect pressure and respond with vibrations, similar to the Home button Apple previously used on some iPhones.
