Pradhan on Saturday, July 25, resigned as the Education Minister in the wake of widespread students’ protests following the paper leak controversy linked to the May 3 Eligibility-cum-Entrance (NEET-UG) 2026. Gogoi, who initiated a discussion on the proposed Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, said: “21 children died by suicide. He (Dharmendra Pradhan) didn’t resign. But when he came to the Parliament yesterday, he was garlanded as if he had gone to Pakistan border and won a battle".

An MP from Jorhat, he questioned the Centre over the bill, accusing it of displaying unseriousness in curbing paper leaks. “These exam reforms are just an eyewash. Such promises were made by government in the past, too."
