The Vizianagaram police have been giving special priority to road safety and are working to ensure zero accidents in the district, Superintendent of Police A.R. Damodar said on Tuesday (April 14, 2026). Speaking to the media, he said lack of attention, overspeeding and disregard for traffic rules were leading to fatal road accidents in the district.
He said the department’s recent initiatives had reduced accidents on several routes, including Vizianagaram-Denkada-Vizianagaram-Chintalavalasa and Vizianagaram-Gajapathinagaram, where speed breakers had been installed. He directed all police officials to place stoppers with radium stickers at key junctions to slow vehicle speeds and prevent accidents.
Mr. Damodar sought people’s cooperation and suggestions to improve road safety norms in and around Vizianagaram, adding that the traffic department had been consulting the public on the
same. Local residents urged the police and municipal corporation authorities to install street lights on the Ice Factory-Dharmapuri stretch, from Railway Bridge to Y Junction, and at other places.
