West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday (July 28, 2026) said the Kolkata Police STF has busted an interstate drug trafficking racket and detained seven people during an operation in Purulia district. He said the Special Task Force of Kolkata Police, along with the Purulia district police, intercepted a truck on NH-18 near the Belkuri Toll Plaza under the Purulia Muffasil PS on Monday (July 27, 2026) night and seized a large quantity of ganja.
The Chief Minister did not give details of the quantity and value of the contraband seized during the operation. "I commend the swift, coordinated and resolute action of our Law Enforcement Agencies," the Chief Minister said in a post on X. The contraband was recovered from a "specially concealed cavity behind the driver's seat of the truck", he said.
"Two escort vehicles travelling alongside the truck from Odisha towards Asansol were also intercepted, and seven people were detained in the operation," the Chief Minister said. The West Bengal government maintains a "zero-tolerance policy towards illegal drug trafficking and any unlawful activities that threaten the safety and well-being of our youth and society", Mr. Adhikari said.
