(Image: PTI) The Lok Sabha is set for a politically charged debate on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 on Tuesday, July 28, with senior leaders from both the Opposition and the NDA expected to participate. The discussion, scheduled to begin around 2 pm, is being watched as the first major parliamentary confrontation over the NEET paper leak controversy and the wider issue of exam integrity in India. The government has allocated eight hours for the discussion after days of disruptions during the Monsoon Session. According to parliamentary sources, floor leaders agreed to take up the bill following consultations initiated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Congress To Put Top Leadership On The Front Line From the Opposition, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is expected to be one of the principal speakers during the debate. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is also likely to participate, marking a significant intervention by the party’s top leadership on an issue that has triggered widespread student protests across the country.

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal and deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi are also expected to speak on behalf of the party. Sources say Gogoi will begin the debate from the Congress’s side. NCP (Sharad Pawar) MP Supriya Sule is also among the Opposition leaders likely to participate in the discussion, indicating that the INDIA bloc intends to make the debate a broader political challenge to the government’s handling of examination-related irregularities. The Congress has repeatedly linked the proposed legislation to the alleged failures that led to the NEET-UG paper leak controversy. Rahul Gandhi has earlier accused the government of not taking adequate responsibility for protecting students and ensuring transparency in public examinations. NDA Lines Up Prominent Young Faces On the Treasury benches, the BJP is expected to field a mix of experienced parliamentarians and younger leaders. According to the NDA’s proposed speaker list, Bansuri Swaraj and Tejasvi Surya are expected to lead the BJP’s charge during the debate. Other NDA members are also likely to intervene during the discussion as the government seeks to project the bill as a strong response to examination fraud. Other alliance leaders expected to participate include TDP MP Lavu Krishna Devarayalu, JD(U)’s Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde, Apna Dal (S) leader Anupriya Patel and NCP MP Sunil Tatkare.
