Chirayu Rana’s attorney Jon Norinsberg said that the earlier complaint’s graphic allegations had overshadowed what he described as the central issues in the case. “For months, JPMorgan has fed the public a false and misleading narrative about this case," Jon Norinsberg said, adding that the revised filing relies more heavily on documentary evidence, including alleged recorded conversations. The federal lawsuit broadens the list of defendants to include JPMorgan managing directors Brandon Graffeo and Jon Wolter, as well as associate Kelly Crowe, alongside the bank and Lorna Hajdini. According to the complaint, Chirayu Rana was subjected to repeated racial abuse, with colleagues allegedly referring to him as “monkey," “Brown boy" and “Brownie," while also making jokes about paying him in Indian rupees. The filing includes screenshots of text messages that allegedly reference his ethnicity and South Asian background.

The lawsuit also alleges that after Chirayu Rana reported the alleged misconduct, he received anonymous threatening messages telling him to “go back" to his country and warning that immigration authorities would be contacted regarding his family. Chirayu Rana further claims that employees within JPMorgan’s Leveraged Finance team made racist and discriminatory remarks toward non-white and non-Christian colleagues, including offensive comments about African Americans and Jewish people. The complaint also alleges that one executive expressed a desire to keep the workplace “white and Christian." The filing further accuses the bank of orchestrating a campaign to damage Chirayu Rana’s career after he left the firm, alleging it interfered with his subsequent employment at investment firm Bregal Sagemount and sought to blacklist him within the financial industry. Despite removing much of the explicit language from the original complaint, the lawsuit retains allegations that Lorna Hajdini threatened Chirayu Rana’s career if he refused her alleged sexual advances. JPMorgan rejected the allegations, maintaining its position that the claims lack merit.
