The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has processed 783 kg of 'religious waste' under its āDivine Waste Driveā, an initiative aimed at promoting eco-friendly management of devotional materials through responsible collection, dismantling, segregation and recycling. The campaign was undertaken to ensure that religious waste, including idols, photo frames and other sacred materials, was handled with dignity while preventing them from ending up in landfills.
The initiative seeks to balance respect for religious traditions with environmental sustainability by promoting scientific and eco-friendly disposal practices. The total 783 kg of divine waste was collected and processed across five locations in the CMC limits. Allwyn Colony accounted for the highest quantity at 382 kg, followed by Madhapur with 277 kg, Nizampet with 78 kg, Kompally with 29 kg and Medchal with 17 kg.
āTrained personnel carefully dismantled and segregated the collected materials to maximise recovery and recycling. Usable items were repurposed wherever possible, recyclable materials were sent for
recycling and the remaining waste was disposed of using environmentally safe methods, reducing the burden on landfills,ā the civic body said.
