Two people have been arrested in connection with the theft of a nearly 300-year-old historic cannon from Narwar Fort, while the search for the stolen artefact is still underway in Rajasthan’s Karauli district. Shivpuri Police said their investigation led them to Karauli after cyber cell tracking and CCTV footage analysis helped identify the route used by the accused. A joint search operation was launched with Karauli Police in villages under the Hindaun area, including Bigoli Meena village, where the cannon is suspected to have been hidden.
Read Full Story Police have arrested Aman, son of Mohan Lal Meena, and Tim Ram, son of Bhura Ram, both residents of Karauli. A Bolero vehicle allegedly used to transport the stolen cannon has also been seized. According to police, the accused had attempted to steal the cannon twice. The first attempt was made on July 5, but they failed as the cannon was too heavy to move. They succeeded in stealing it on July 15.
The stolen cannon, made of Ashtadhatu, is believed to have a value of crores of rupees in the international market, which is suspected to be the reason behind the theft. Police officials said the investigation also revealed links to a dispute related to the Panchna Dam in Karauli. The accused allegedly planned to use the cannon in a conspiracy to damage the dam, though further investigation is underway to verify the claims.
Teams from Shivpuri and Rajasthan Police searched several locations using JCB machines and metal detectors to locate the cannon. However, the historic weapon has not yet been recovered.
