In an interview regarding exam reforms, Indian Institute of Technology Madras Director Professor V. Kamakoti discussed the challenges of conducting nationwide examinations at scale and the necessity of structural technological interventions. Highlighting the growth from 5,000 candidates in 1985 to 1.5 million aspirants today, Kamakoti stated that "technology intervention is imminent" to make India's examination process transparent and secure.
As a technologist on the Nandan Nilekani-led Education Task Force, Kamakoti emphasized that "technology is prime here" while addressing past paper leaks and root-of-trust breaches. He explained that the task force aims to evaluate processes and recommend maximum possible measures to ensure tamper-proof, leak-proof, and accountable examination systems before upcoming testing cycles.
