An internal Delhi Police report accessed by India Today reveals that 2,873 individuals with criminal records infiltrated student protests at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The Facial Recognition System identified repeat offenders linked to murder, rape, dacoity, POCSO cases, and narcotics offenses. Security forces flagged concerns after multiple barricades were broken during the demonstrations. In response to nationwide violence, Bihar Police published photographs of 270 vandalism suspects with cash reward offers, while Kolkata authorities detained 16 individuals using CCTV footage.
Concurrently, a panel discussion on India Today's 'India First' addressed political hijacking allegations, police injuries, and enforcement tactics. BJP spokesperson Dr. Zafar Islam accused opposition parties of inciting violence, while panelist Dr. Abhijit claimed miscreants were introduced to discredit peaceful protests. police officials highlighted challenges faced by security forces after over 100 officers sustained injuries from stone pelting. The issue triggered parliamentary disruptions ahead of discussions on the Public Examinations Amendment Bill.
