Watch: Juhu Residents Threaten Protests, Legal Action Over 16-Acre Land Allotment To Kelavani Mandal
Residents of Juhu in Mumbai have raised strong objections against the allotment of 16 acres of public land across three plots to the Kelavani Mandal
Residents of Juhu in Mumbai have raised strong objections against the allotment of 16 acres of public land across three plots to the Kelavani Mandal Education Trust. Members of the Gulmohar Area Residents Association, including Bharat Shetty and activist Ashok Pandit, questioned why public open spaces managed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) were handed over to a private organization.
The residents have written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the BMC Commissioner, and the MHADA CEO, urging an immediate cancellation of the allotments. They expressed fears that private management will restrict public access for local citizens and children. Resident groups have warned that if the government fails to cancel the land transfer, they will launch street demonstrations and approach the High Court for legal intervention.
Meanwhile, Kelavani Mandal president Amrish Patel maintained that the grounds were allotted following due process to provide sports facilities for students who lack designated playing areas.
