Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti has triggered a major political controversy following her address during the Gen Z student protests at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Comparing police action against students to the security situation in Kashmir, Mufti remarked that the use of force in Kashmir was justified due to security forces facing armed militants, whereas Delhi protesters were unarmed and non-violent.
The statement drew swift criticism from political opponents in Jammu and Kashmir, including Conference leader Omar Abdullah and rival party leaders, who slammed her remarks as shocking and demanded an apology instead of blaming artificial intelligence for altering her footage. While PDP leaders defended her, claiming the video was doctored and manipulated out of context using AI technology by political rivals, opposition parties rejected the defence, accusing her of justifying state force against Kashmiris and betraying the people.
