Teachers should strengthen their knowledge through libraries, reading, and original research rather than depend excessively on Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, said Central University of Karnataka (CUK) Vice-Chancellor Battu Satyanarayana. Speaking at a user awareness programme on ‘Library e-Resources’ organised by the CUK Central Library for new teaching faculty members on the main campus on Monday (July 27), Prof. Satyanarayana said that over-dependence on AI in academic writing and research could affect independent thinking, analytical skills, and originality.
“A teacher’s knowledge, creativity, and academic integrity are the foundations of quality education,” he said, advising faculty members to use AI responsibly while preserving their own academic approach. Highlighting the importance of digital academic resources, Prof. Satyanarayana urged faculty members to make effective use of the Central Library and its electronic resources. Referring to the Union government’s One Nation-One Subscription (ONOS) initiative, he said it provides access to more than 13,000 international scholarly journals, enabling researchers to access quality academic literature.
He recalled that earlier researchers had to travel to libraries and rely on printed materials, whereas digital platforms have now made research resources easily accessible. Prof. Satyanarayana urged faculty members and scholars to use the university’s laboratories, Skill Development Centre, and other facilities to undertake original and impactful research. V. Panduranga, dean, School of Business Studies, and Head of Department of Commerce, who delivered the resource lecture, highlighted the role of digital resources in simplifying research and encouraged participants to utilise ONOS and library services.
The programme featured technical sessions on Library e-Resources, ONOS, plagiarism detection tools, Grammarly, and other digital research support services.
