A private hospital in Haryana's Panipat has come under the scanner after the family of a woman who died during treatment alleged that doctors performed an unauthorised heart procedure despite admitting her for a fractured leg. Police have registered an FIR against doctors at the hospital and launched an investigation. The incident pertains to Park Hospital on GT Road in Panipat. According to the complaint, the deceased, Guddi Devi, a resident of Ramesh Nagar originally from Kanpur Dehat in Uttar Pradesh, suffered a fractured leg in a road accident on July 24 and was admitted to the hospital for orthopaedic treatment.
Read Full Story Her son, Kuldeep, alleged that the family expected doctors to treat the fracture. However, the next day, they were informed that a heart procedure had been carried out and a stent had been implanted without their knowledge or consent. The complainant further alleged that the hospital forged the signatures of family members on the consent form required for the procedure. According to the family, they were never informed that Guddi Devi required a cardiac intervention and came to know about it only after the operation had already been performed. Kuldeep has accused the doctors of medical negligence, cheating and carrying out an unnecessary procedure, alleging that the treatment ultimately led to his mother's death.
The family also alleged that when they questioned the hospital administration after Guddi Devi's death, officials attempted to intimidate them instead of addressing their concerns. They claimed the hospital told them that no action against it would have any impact. Based on the complaint, Sector-29 Police Station in Panipat has registered an FIR against the doctors under sections 106, 318(4) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said the allegations are being investigated and further action will be taken based on the findings. The Station House Officer (SHO) said Guddi Devi's body would undergo a post-mortem examination, which is expected to determine the exact cause of death.
When contacted, Park Hospital CEO Sapna said she would respond to the allegations after some time. The hospital had not issued a detailed statement at the time of filing this report.
