The contract faculty members, under the aegis of Contract Assistant Professorsā Association, have started an indefinite protest at Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) campus in Kakatur, Nellore, on Monday. They have appealed to the government and university officials to resolve their grievances immediately. Speaking on the occasion, association president B. Venkata Subba Reddy brought the issues faced by contract faculty members to the attention of the government and university officials.
He urged the government to consider their demands sympathetically and to ensure immediate justice. He called for the immediate implementation of the Minimum Time Scale (MTS) for those who have been serving the university for many years. He demanded that the government first regularise the currently employed contract teachers and then proceed with fresh recruitment to fill the remaining posts.
Similarly, the association members sought to consider the service of the contract assistant professors in the process of filling the posts of associate professors. They claimed that not only the contract staff of the VSU but more than 3,000 contract faculty members working in all universities across the State were demanding the same. Meanwhile, the contract lecturers working at university colleges in Nellore and Kavali participated in the protest.
They appealed to the State government to respond positively and immediately fulfil their long pending demands, emphasising the pivotal role they play in enhancing higher education standards.
