Langton spent 20 hours in a neck brace before being discharged from hospital after falling three metres onto his head during Friday’s competition.
He later said that the accident occurred while performing a move on the high bars that he had executed ‘1,000 times’, adding that ‘it is the one that has happened’. Langton admitted he felt frustrated and embarrassed before realising the seriousness of the incident. “I knew I could speak and move my fingers and toes, so my main thing was ‘hopefully I can do gymnastics again’. That question was in my head for the 20 hours until I got the MRI scan results," Langton said while speaking to the BBC. “That was eating away at me. A little bit sore and a little bit stiff, but that is to be expected. I can’t really complain too much," Langton added.
Before the fall, Langton was attempting to transition into a handstand on the high bar when he lost his grip and crashed head-first onto the mat. The competition was halted for an extended period before he was taken away first on a trolley and then on a stretcher. “Once I went up and both hands had left the bar, that isn’t the best. From that moment, I knew ‘oh this is not going to be comfortable," Langton said. England went on to win silver behind Canada in the event. He received his medal only after returning to the team hotel on Saturday evening, where he was welcomed with applause from his teammates. “That was incredible.
Seeing all of the teammates, coaches and getting my medal. I saw my personal coach from Birmingham. It was so nice," Langton said.
