MP thanks Centre for new ESIC office in Nandyal, calls for swift appointment of staff

Nandyal MP and TDP national general secretary Dr. Byreddy Shabari thanked the Central government for establishing a new ESIC branch office in the district headquarters. Speaking during the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha on Monday (July 27, 2026), Ms. Shabari welcomed the move, noting that the establishment of the new branch office would make ESI services and benefits more accessible to workers in the district. However, she pointed out that no regular staff had been appointed to the branch office so far and urged the government to clarify when the sanctioned staff would be appointed to ensure the office operates at full capacity.
She highlighted that, following the reorganisation of Andhra Pradesh, many newly formed districts, including Nandyal, still lack dedicated EPFO district offices. As a result, workers are forced to travel to older district headquarters, such as Kurnool, for Provident Fund-related services. Ms. Shabari asked the government whether there were any proposals to establish dedicated EPFO district offices in Nandyal and other newly formed districts in Andhra Pradesh, and if so, when they would be implemented. According to ESIC’s own regulations, claims for the reimbursement of medical expenses are supposed to be settled within a timeframe of 21 to 30 days.
Ms. Shabari, referring to various instances in her Nandyal parliamentary constituency, said that it takes 6 to 8 months for insured persons to receive their reimbursements. Shabari further added that the TDP-led NDA government in Andhra Pradesh has attracted proposed investments worth approximately ₹4.58 lakh crore in the Rayalaseema region and it is estimated that these projects will generate around 3.57 lakh jobs. She said that despite existing legal provisions, many contract and migrant workers face delays in accessing statutory benefits such as ESI and EPF during the implementation of these projects.
The MP urged the Union Minister of Labour to consider strengthening enforcement and ensure that contractors strictly adhere to EPFO and ESIC regulations.
