A ground reality check from Assam highlights the devastation caused by massive floods across the state, with the death toll reaching 68 and over 5.24 lakh people affected across nine districts. Sivasagar district has emerged as one of the worst-hit areas in the past 50 years, with around 30 fatalities reported in the region alone. To rescue stranded residents from completely inundated villages, 60 SDRF and NDRF rescue boats alongside 62 indigenous country boats have been deployed, shifting many affected residents to safer locations and relief camps.
Floodwaters have impacted 763 villages across 24 revenue circles, leaving several remote locations submerged in mud and difficult for rescue teams to reach even as water levels begin to recede. Although advisories remain active along the Brahmaputra riverfront, caution is still advised as Assam and Gujarat remain among the worst-affected states during this monsoon season.
