Reservation Hatao Andolan Is Going Viral A new issue-based online campaign is rapidly gaining attention, with an anti-reservation group calling itself the Reservation Hatao Andolan (RHA) attracting 4.6 million followers on Instagram within a short period. The development comes after the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led GenZ protests over the NEET irregularities and amid a broader wave of social media-led campaigns around public policy issues. Interestingly, the group’s slogan draws from B R Ambedkar’s “Educate-Agitate-Organize", while its organisers describe the campaign as a citizen-led movement with no political affiliation. What we know about Reservation Hatao Andolan? The group’s Instagram account, under the username reservationhataomovement, has 109 posts, follows one account (Indian Army) and has amassed 4.6 million followers. Its profile identifies itself as Reservation Hatao Andolan (RHA) and carries the bio: “Backed by citizens who believe reform deserves a voice." It also features the slogan “Educate-Agitate-Organize", the Hindi line “सारी जाति एक समान, मेरा बस ये देश महान।" (All castes are equal; my only wish is that this nation remains great) and ends with “Jai Hind." In one of its Instagram posts, the group said it was not linked to any political party.
“We are not affiliated with any political party. Like many citizens, we once believed that a change in government might bring major reforms to the reservation system. BJP failed to do so. Instead, reservation policies continued to evolve and expand. “Our conclusion is simple: this issue cannot be reduced to party politics. Our focus is on the policy not the party. This is a citizen-led movement, independent of every political party," the post said. What is Reservation Hatao Andolan’s demand? The Reservation Hatao Andolan has also outlined what it describes as its policy proposal. According to the group, if the objective is to eliminate caste-based discrimination, the government should stop requiring or recognising caste identity in everyday public life. It said no one should be identified as “Bharaman, Jaat, Gurjar, SC, ST" and called for “the showcasing of the cast illegal". The group further said that citizens should not have to declare or record their caste in routine government forms, educational admissions, employment applications or other public-facing processes. It said its long-term goal was “One Nation. One Identity. Indian." and concluded its proposal with the slogan, “Remove Reservation. Remove Casteism."
