India’s campaign at the 23rd Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games is off to a flying start, with the nation currently holding eighth place in the medal tally after securing four medals: one gold, two silver, and one bronze. Leading a 122-member contingent across eight able-bodied (athletics, artistic gymnastics, bowls, boxing, judo, swimming, track cycling, weightlifting) and five integrated para-sports categories (para athletics, para powerlifting, para swimming, para track cycling and 3x3 wheelchair basketball), Indian athletes are already making their mark in Scotland.
The country sits just behind Malaysia in the overall standings as competition continues. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu secured India’s first gold medal in Glasgow by winning the 48 kg event. Meanwhile, Rishikanta Singh won India’s first able-bodied medal with a silver in the Men’s 60 kg weightlifting category and Raja Muthupandi followed up with a second silver in the Men’s 65 kg weightlifting event. Para-powerlifter Jhandu Kumar officially opened India’s medal account on Friday (July 24) by capturing a bronze medal in the Men’s para-powerlifting division.
