Data Mismatch On Ride Apps? Bengaluru Police Chief Wants Platforms 'Proactive, Not Reactive' Published By, Last Updated: July 27, 2026, 14:29 IST Riders say the mismatch — in vehicle number, driver's name, or both — leaves them uneasy, especially when in a hurry. Ride App Data Mismatch: Ola, Rapido and Namma Yatri declined to comment on accountability; Uber did not respond to the publication's queries. Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh has urged commuters to file complaints whenever the vehicle number or driver’s name shown on a ride-hailing app doesn’t match the auto or driver that turns up, as mismatch complaints mount across platforms including Uber, Ola, Rapido and Namma Yatri. Deccan Herald quoted Singh as saying that commuters can approach either law-and-order or traffic police to lodge complaints, and that he continues meeting ride-aggregator platforms to push them toward proactive data verification rather than reactive damage control after incidents occur.
Ola, Rapido and Namma Yatri declined to comment on accountability; Uber did not respond to the publication’s queries. What Did The Commissioner Say? “Once we have a complaint, we can officially look into the matter," Singh said, adding that platforms should get “all the data in order" instead of “waiting for an untoward incident to happen and then scrambling," DH quoted him as saying. Why Are Commuters Worried? Riders say the mismatch — in vehicle number, driver’s name, or both — leaves them uneasy, especially when in a hurry. “I’d prefer not to board an auto when the data is mismatched," said Juhaina, a 27-year-old homemaker who uses autos frequently, per the report. Have Confrontations Turned Hostile? Some commuters said drivers reacted aggressively when questioned.
Nupur Thakur, a 31-year-old entrepreneur, told DH that a driver argued with her and demanded half the fare after she said “I was not comfortable taking the ride," despite the vehicle number matching but not the driver. What Explanation Do Drivers Offer? Drivers most commonly cite rented autos changing hands when a lease ends. Deccan Herald reported that users on X, Reddit and app-review platforms have flagged similar experiences across Uber, Ola, Rapido and Namma Yatri, with some spotting the mismatch before boarding and others only after the ride began.
