NEET Protests: Bengaluru Woman Booked For Displaying Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam Posters Published By, Last Updated: July 27, 2026, 13:46 IST Bengaluru NEET Protest: An unidentified woman was seen holding up posters with slogans reading "Umar Khalid Zindabad," "Sharjeel Imam Zindabad," and "Bengaluru Police Ukhad Le." NEET Paper Leak Case Bengaluru police have booked an unidentified woman for allegedly displaying “provocative" posters at a student protest in Freedom Park on July 24. The FIR follows a complaint by sub-inspector Sulochana, who was on bandobast duty at the venue where over 1,500 people had gathered to protest alleged police action on students in Delhi. The protest was organised by the Karnataka Vidyarthi Sanghatane (KVS) under Nagesh Aralukuppe, demanding Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation over the alleged lathi-charge.
Police say the woman was seen holding posters referencing Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam before slipping into the crowd, prompting a CCTV-based investigation to trace her identity. What Happened At The Protest? Sulochana said that around 5.30 pm, as protesters raised slogans, she spotted an unidentified young woman holding up posters with slogans reading “Umar Khalid Zindabad," “Sharjeel Imam Zindabad," and “Bengaluru Police Ukhad Le." She alerted colleagues, but reinforcements could not reach the woman in time — the posters were reportedly concealed in the crowd before they could be seized. Who Are Umar Khalid And Sharjeel Imam? Both named in the posters are former student activists who have faced UAPA charges linked to the 2020 Delhi riots case; their trials remain sub judice.
Their invocation at the Bengaluru protest has not been independently linked to any organisation, and police have not yet identified the woman or her affiliation, if any. What Triggered The Protest? The KVS-led demonstration was called to condemn an alleged police lathi-charge on students protesting in Delhi and to demand accountability from the Union education ministry, with Pradhan’s resignation as the central demand. What Are The Police Doing Now? Investigators have reviewed footage from CCTV cameras at Freedom Park as well as visuals recorded by personnel on duty, which they say shows the woman displaying the posters “in a manner that could provoke the public and disturb peace." The case remains under investigation, and no arrests have been made so far.
