From ‘Face’ To ‘Sad Voice Of CJP’: UP’s Junaid Bhai, The Hand That Fed Protesters, Feels Ignored Published By, Last Updated: July 27, 2026, 13:30 IST Junaid Bhai broke down speaking about CJP, "Even if you keep an animal with you for 24 hours, you start to care for it. I fed them for 35 days. They should have met or shook hands" Rapid Read Junaid Bhai was in tears as he spoke about the indifference shown by CJP. Uttar Pradesh’s volunteer ‘Junaid Bhai’, who became the face of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, is now unhappy with the group. “I am completely ignored by CJP leaders. They are not in touch with me. Even if you keep an animal with you for 24 hours, you start to care for it, whereas I stayed with them for 35 days as a human…I fed them for 35 days," he said. “The bond will not break…But they should have met or shook hands…We didn’t even exchange numbers…We will never be able to meet each other," said Junaid as he broke down while speaking to Hindustan Live.
WHO IS MOHAMMAD JUNAID? Mohammad Junaid is a prominent grass-roots volunteer from Nahal village in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. He became one of the most recognizable faces of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) student agitation at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Junaid was not a formal political leader or microphone speaker. Instead, he worked behind the scenes, setting up a kitchen to selflessly supply free meals, tea, drinking water, and basic snacks to hundreds of student protesters camping out during the long-running anti-paper leak agitation. Junaid became the focus of intense mainstream news after alleging significant police retaliation.
He claimed the Uttar Pradesh Police raided his Ghaziabad home, seized family documents, and detained his father and minor brother to pressure him to quit the protest. Separately, he alleged that Delhi Police personnel briefly detained him in plain clothes, blindfolded him overnight, and questioned him extensively regarding “who was funding" the mass food distribution before leaving him in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. The police have denied the allegations. Following a massive public outcry, legal intervention, and the eventual calling-off of the CJP protest, Junaid and his family members were officially released and set free. WHY IS JUNAID BHAI UNHAPPY? Junaid said that he expected stronger public support and a clearer, more vocal response from CJP members. He noted that leaders seemed to remain silent, leaving him to feel alienated during his family’s crisis. Junaid has openly expressed that the party “distanced" themselves from him. He said his family and he have been released, but they are navigating the alleged police and court issues largely on their own.
